EDITORIAL: VOICE OF THE HOD - AN ADVICE TO THE FRESHERS.

The editorial crew of the Voice of NAMMES was privileged to have a short oral interview with Engr. Prof. C. N. Anyakwo; Head, Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, FUTO. During the course of the interview he pointed out so many pieces of advice to the newly admitted students of the department and to the older students at large. Below is an excerpt.

VON: Sir, do you have any words of advice to the newly admitted students?

HOD: Yes, of course. I congratulate and welcome you to the department of Met/Mat Engineering, the bedrock of Engineering. It is very important you note this few information.

Firstly, you must learn how to compute your Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) now so as not to make mistakes and also cultivate the habit of checking your results after each semester so as to avoid causing academic problems for yourself.

Secondly, I want you to note that the class of Degree you wish to graduate with starts from now. If you want to make to a First Class, don’t wait till you reach 500L before you start preparing. The time starts now.

Thirdly, Make sure you attend the entire practical (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Workshop practice) and also register all your courses appropriately. Last year, we had a lot of missing practical score in Chemistry and we wouldn’t want such to happen again.

Fourthly, if you wish to withdraw from the department or from the school, then you must write to the Senate through the Dean, School of Engineering and through your HOD.

Finally, let me make it known to you that MME does not in any way support Examination Malpractice. So, avoid all forms of Examination misconduct and learn to study.

VON: Thank you Sir for your time. Your advice was wonderful and we will do our best to inform the year one students appropriately.

HOD: You are welcome.
